Calendar can cover many skills in just a little bit of time!
Shapes
Patterns
Days of the week
Counting
Writing numbers
Understanding the date
At Creekview, each child has their own calendar.
To start the year we used basic shapes and a simple AB pattern. The students say the pattern in order to determine the shape for that day. Then they count to determine the number. After they write the number, we say the date. We used the song "7 Days of the Week" from The Learning Station at the beginning of the year to learn the days of the week, so it's easy for the child to figure out the day of the week on their own.

Each month the patterns get a little more complex. In January we had water week, octopus week, and insect week. I threw in a snowman for fun, and we did have lots of fun drawing faces on them!

If you decide to add calendar to your routine, let me know how it goes!
